Ladies Day at the Galway Races

deblaca at the races

"As I went down to Galway Town
To seek for recreation
On the seventeenth of August
Me mind being elevated
There were passengers assembled
With their tickets at the station
And me eyes began to dazzle
And they off to see the races"

The traditional Irish song recorded by Luke Kelly and The Dubliners and later by The Pogues, celebrates the famous Galway Races.

The Galway Races at Ballybrit Racecourse dates back to 17 August 1869.  The Festival is now one of the social and sporting highlights of the year.  The seven-day Festival will kick off this year on Monday 25th July and will play host to over 150,000 racing fans.   Ladies Day on Thursday August 3rd promises to be a spectacular celebration of style, with the Best Dressed Lady sponsored by the g Hotel & Spa Galway City Hotel this year.  The judges this year are  Triona Barrett (General Manager of the g Hotel & Spa), Bairbre Power (Fashion Editor Irish Independent), and celebrity judges Baz Ashmawy and Aoibhín Garrihy
